Even though we keep calling it consciousness, awareness, etc., the absolute is way more than that.
Consciousness (chitta)is only one of its attributes.
Even Sat-Chitta-Anand falls short in describing it completely.
The only “thing” that truly describes it well is absolute silence.
It is an unconditional acceptance that just cannot be described.
The word ‘consciousness’ seems to fit well, only because we are all conscious, and that’s why we can understand it.
“What would you have done with consciousness 100 years back? You did not even have a body, let alone the rest of the sansar, to be conscious of?”
– Nisargdatta talking to a sadhak.
The absolute was, even before the consciousness.
All the world’s great saints merge at the same place.
“The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.”
– Lao Tse
Defining it narrows it down and takes away its beauty; only silence can do it justice.
Continue your inner journey until you become totally speechless.
Shankaracharya says in the Dakshinamurty stotra —
Maunam vyakhya prakatita   parabrahma tattvam
The Supreme Brahman is revealed through silence
