The origin of "I".

The origin of “I”.

The whole “I” business originated in fantasy and now operates there.

“I” was only an imagination (fantasy) of the mind.

It fantasized about a steady “I” outside of an ever-changing life.

It stitched zillions of past events together into a story of a hypothesized “I,” using its memory of those events.

It claimed a fantasized ownership of the body, totally neglecting the fact that the laws of nature created it, operate it, and will also destroy it.

What can a fantasy do?

Generate more fantasies. (A mango tree can only produce mangoes, not bananas).

It generates the past, which is a fantasy (because it doesn’t exist anymore, yet the mind “makes” it exist), and the future, which is also a fantasy (because it is not here; no one can predict it, so it…

One of the best strategies to realize the illusion of “I” is to start witnessing whatever is happening in day-to-day life, while including yourself in that awareness.

You may be gardening, for example, and be aware of the act of gardening being performed by someone you used to identify with, as “I”.

Just remain a witness of “You” watching TV, “You” reading a book, “You” bicycling, etc.

If any event occurs that activates the mind and it reacts, let it happen, and realize that it was just something that happened.

Let it pass, without adding any thought to it: “This happened to me.” “I should not have reacted like that.”, etc

This will begin the realization of awareness as a permanent entity and regain its power as the real and permanent entity witnessing life’s temporary events, which come and go.
