Mindfulness and Mindlessness
Mindfulness is a great way to begin the spiritual path, where awareness of the mind (thoughts) helps one realize that awareness and what it is aware of are two separate entities.
But this is just the beginning.
Once you realize this, the next critical phase starts – Parmita (Buddha’s word – walking away – from thoughts, taking a 180 degree turn) (described in depth in my book)
This leads to immersion into the awareness, consciousness becoming conscious of consciousness(Sallinta, another word from Buddha – it is the opposite of tallinta- being “magna”- total immersion, not thinking about anything else)
This leads to the realization of the infinite nature of consciousness (since awareness is spirit and spirit cannot be finite).
At this point, the mind disappears- mindlessness.
So, mindfulness is only a tool; mindlessness is the ultimate Samadhi state.
