Creation of “I”
Whatever the mind knows has come to it via sense organs; it was never its own, and yet it always boasts about it.
It wants to show off what it knows.
To make itself look superior, it creates an entity called “I”, which it stamps on every piece of knowledge it gathers; I know this, I know that, I know him, I know her.
To expand its treasury, it creates memories, future fantasies, etc, and keeps playing in this self-created world, thinking that it did something great.
But there is another entity that even knows the mind and all its devious tricks.
Who is superior?
The mind that knows, or the one that knows the mind?
Only by revealing this higher entity can we show the insignificance of the mind.
And that entity is awareness, which arises from within, in meditation.
And yet, look at the difference.
Mind wants to stamp itself, “I,” on everything, and the awareness that is far superior to the mind only presents its knowing ability, but there is no “I”.
There is knowing (of the mind), but no knower.
There is Godliness, but no God.
Try to find it, and you can’t find it.
Even though it is the supreme knower, it does not lay a claim on its ability.
And look at the mind; it stamps “I” on everything.
We are all like light bugs; we stay in the darkness and keep showing off our transient flashes of light (acquired knowledge).
But as soon as the sun arises, our lights become meaningless and useless.
And that is the reason most people are afraid of meditating, because meditation is all about realizing that whatever we knew so far has no value.
They would rather stay in their dark world and keep flashing than find the sun within.
Meditation is a yagna (a ritual of offerings made to the fire) that asks for the biggest offering of all – “You”.
And that’s why it is called taap (rigorous spiritual practice) in the heat of which burns the Ego.
