A Story On Faith

A beautiful story from the Sunderkand signifying the importance of faith.

“What would have happened if I hadn’t been there?”

In the Ashoka Vatika, when Ravana, filled with rage, took his sword and rushed to kill Mother Sita

Hanuman felt like snatching his sword and beheading him!

But the next moment, he saw Mandodri holding Ravana’s hand!*

He was overwhelmed by this!

He thought, “If I hadn’t been there, who would have saved Sita?*

We often have this kind of confusion: What would have happened if I hadn’t been there?

But what happened?

The Lord entrusted the task of saving Sita to Ravana’s wife!

Then Hanuman understood that whatever the Lord wants to do, He gets it done from whoever He wants!

Later, when Trijata said, “A monkey has come to Lanka, and he will burn Lanka down!”

Hanuman became very worried, realizing that the Lord hadn’t ordered Lanka to be burned.

And Trijata said she had seen in a dream that a monkey had burned Lanka!

What should he do now? Whatever the Lord wished!

When Ravana’s soldiers rushed to kill Hanuman with swords,

Hanuman made no attempt to save himself.

And when Vibhishana came and said that killing a messenger was unethical,

Hanuman understood that the Lord had taken this action to save him.

His astonishment reached its peak when Ravana said,

“The monkey will not be killed, but a cloth should be wrapped around its tail, ghee should be poured on it, and it should be set on fire.”

Hanuman began to wonder if Trijata of Lanka was right.

Otherwise, where would I get ghee, oil, cloth, and fire to burn Lanka?

But you made Ravana arrange for that too! When you can even get your work done by Ravana, what’s the surprise in getting it done by me?

Therefore, always remember that everything happening in this world is God’s law!

You and I are merely instruments!

Therefore, never harbor the illusion that…what would have happened if I hadn’t been there?

I am neither superior nor special,

I am just a small, small servant of God.
