Ego is an illusion

So, Ego is an illusion.

Why?

Because there is no “solid” entity that we can call “I”; it’s only a belief.

Belief is an interesting word; belief means it’s not there, but the mind “believes” it to be there.

It’s a mind’s creation, not a reality. (Just like a mirage in the desert).

Ego, because it is not real, needs several interdependencies.

Ego cannot exist by itself.

To define Ego, you always need external help.

Every component of Ego depends on something.

1. Your body – dependent on five elements to survive – earth(food), water, fire (sun’s heat), air (oxygen), and space (to exist and grow in it).
2. ⁠All your possessions (you acquired from others).
3. ⁠Your emotions (anger, greed, hatred, Egotism (feeling of superiority), selective love(not unconditional)) all need others ( objects, people, situations ) to exist.

And not just us; the whole universe is interdependent, which is the built-in “law” of the universe.

A card game cannot go on without even a single card, presumably the lowest card (even though an ace of spades may have more power than the two of spades, supposedly).

So, where is the room for independent Ego?

Only as a belief in our minds.

So, as Ego, we are living only a dependent life.

And yet spirituality says there is a life we all can live: an independent life, an independent existence.

And that life is the life as the matrix in which the drama of sansar is being played, and it is free from all; it doesn’t need anything to exist; it exists by itself, with Sansar or without. (Sky can exist with or without the clouds).
