Nine Steps to Samadhi

Nine Steps to Samadhi

Nine steps to Samadhi.

1. Samir is curious. He has everything in life that one can ask for. But somehow, after meeting a particular friend, he starts feeling restless. Now he wants to find what lies beyond the ordinary daily life.

2. Samir starts meditating, focusing on his favorite subject, object, or breathing, etc, to calm his mind first.

3. Samir is steady and regular in his practice. After a few months, he starts realizing that thoughts come and go, but there is an empty darkness within that somehow seems aware of his thoughts.

4. Samir realizes the existence of awareness that is SEPARATE from the thoughts. It is AWARE of the thoughts. Awareness gradually condenses and becomes a reality.

5. With steady practice, Samir realizes that the awareness has become much more powerful. Now, the awareness is not just aware of the breathing, but also is AWARE OF SAMIR WHO IS OBSERVING HIS OWN BREATHING. Now Samir realizes that the awareness within is a lot more powerful than Samir’s awareness, which was only aware of his breathing. Samir’s awareness was only a borrowed awareness, coming from this large source of infinite awareness, which is also aware of the whole world. Samir makes friends with this newfound awareness.

6. Samir immerses into this awareness. He becomes ONE with this awareness.

7. Samir, along with the whole Sansar, is no more to be found, and only infinite Awareness remains. “Aham Brahmasmi” (I am the Brahma). Samir gets dropped, but “I” ness remains (old habit).

8. Eventually, the “I-ness” (Asmita) does not need to exist anymore. Awareness is self-sufficient to exist on its own.

9. Samir has found his true self. There is joy, there is bliss, but there is nobody left to say “I am enlightened “. Sansar is no more. Awakening has happened, and an enigmatic Shunya state remains, unexplainable but only as TRUE SELF.

Down the road, someone asks Samir, what is our true self?

Samir smiles. He is waiting for the right person to ask the right question.
