Ownership

Ownership

We say “my breathing”, “my heart”.

Why?

How are they ours?

We establish this ownership only in an awake state.

But….

In sleep, the breathing still goes on; the heart still beats.

Who is operating them?

That clearly discloses the lie under which we live our lives, the lie of “I”.

In a deep sleep state, every night, we lose our “I” when we are not awake or when we are not dreaming.

And we pick it up as soon as we wake up.

Why?

Because we have to, because of the Sansar, which works only this way.

So, “I” is a social convenience, not the truth.

If it is an illusion, why don’t we take a step back, observe the workings of the world (including the body and the mind), and let the life force keep doing its job?

So, the “I” that we all walk around thinking that that’s who we are- exists only while we are with Sansar.

The Sansar creates our “I”.

How?

For me to say “my house”, I need a house, and then only I can claim that “I” am the owner of that house.

And then, to define the house, I need its address, which in turn requires a specific street, town, country, etc.

For me to say “my spouse”, I need a spouse.

And to define my spouse, she needs me as her spouse.

The “I” is an entity that is interwoven with Sansar.

It is nothing but a vast collection of fragments of such fragile connections.

No Sansar, no “I”.

And that’s why it stays only in the awake state and the dream state.

And those are the most stressful states for us, because keeping the “I” alive requires constant connections, efforts to possess more and more, efforts to maintain what the “I” already possesses, etc.

But in the deep sleep state, there is no Sansar to define our “I”; that’s why, with enough deep sleep, we feel fresh and rejuvenated the next morning.

“I” is suffering.

And “No-“I” “ – is relaxation and freedom from suffering.

And it happens every night.

The only problem is that in deep sleep, we are asleep and do not realize the absence of “I”; we only realize its positive effects the next morning.

So, what’s the solution?
