The Seer & the Seen

The whole Sansar is doing only one thing: keep looking at each other.

Those who are exhibitionists and want attention become the “seen”.

Others running for obtaining” pleasure from outside become the “seers”.

They are a perfect combination to foster the game of “seer” and the “seen”, starting and ending in itself, not going anywhere; that is Samsara.

Let’s analyze this further.

If you really look deeply, there is “seen,” but no “seer.”

“Seer,” it is only a mental image; in reality, the seer is the seen.

How?

If you consider yourself the “seer” (Dharshak) and think that you are watching the “seen” (Dhrashya), you are wrong. You are the Drashya.

When the seer sees the seen, he is already lost in it; he becomes one with it.

You drink, and you are not you anymore; you have become a drinker (as Rajiv said).

100% of your identification comes from the Sansar – when you were born, what your name is, even what you look like,

There have been incidents when bush people were introduced to a mirror for the first time.

Before that, they never knew what they looked like.

Similarly, your self-identity, the “seer,” is only a reflection of the Sansar.

You may never have drunk in life ever, and you end up in such a company, you start drinking.

You may never have believed yourself to be beautiful until people came to you and told you so,

Same thing for ugliness.

An ugly child is just as happy as a beautiful one, until the Sansar divides them, and since then, their lives change forever.

For me to be a doctor, the Sansar has to give me a certificate, and then patients have to come and see me for my continuous experience as a doctor, and that, whether good or bad, has to come from them.

The “seer”, the “I”, is not a solid fixed entity; it is only a mental collage, a mental construct made from reflections from the “seen” (Sansar).

The “seer” has become the “seen”; you have become the Sansar.

This has led us to live a dualistic life of suffering.

And that’s why Zen Buddhism tells a sadhak to find their true face.

The true face is within us, and it is the awareness.

When awareness starts remaining aware of this unending, futile cycle of the “seer” and the “seen”, they both become the “seen” and eventually disappear.

And only the true “seer” (Dhrashta) remains – the awareness.

Desires create “seers” because they seek pleasure. &

Desires create the “seens” because they want to be seen; they want to be noticed.

Both are blind because desires take you only in one direction, the blind alley of Sansar.

The only savior from this alley is the light of awareness, and it is within.

Remain aware of the awareness all the time and watch the desires fade away.
