Witnessing
Witnessing can be a confusing word.
Someone may think that witnessing is witnessing the world, witnessing the Sansar.
That is not true.
Witnessing is the ability to witness, one having a capacity to witness, and that is the consciousness itself.
But then one might say, “I can witness.” “I am witnessing the world.”
What’s the difference?
Priya replied –
One is witnessing the world through one’s senses, while the other is beyond the senses. It can witness senses & plus (Ashtadha prakruti).
Correct.
We are nothing.
We think we are witnessing, but without the consciousness in us, neither would we be able to witness, nor even think that we are witnessing.
The proof is in witnessing the thinker: so-called witness can be witnessed, but not the awareness.
It’s like moonlight is one, but once it falls on several lakes and oceans, they all believe the light is theirs, yet in reality there is only ONE light. The moment the moonlight disappears, their borrowed light disappears as well.
Awareness is the light that does not know any duality; it lights up our senses, mind, thoughts, and everything; they all are bathing in it.
And one of our thoughts is “I”; me and mine, which separate us from others.
This creates a vast realm of duality for all of us, causing us to suffer.
Knowing awareness as the ultimate supreme and us as non-existent eliminates our suffering.
Life is just happening; let it happen. Count its blessings, realize the ego as a poison, and stay away from it.
The way to rise above the Ego is to live in awareness; stay aware of awareness and Ego starts dwindling.
There are many reflections of moonlight on thousands of lakes, but the moonlight itself is only ONE, and it is THE TRUTH.
Believing themselves to be individual entities, lakes compete with one another and suffer in their duality.
Realizing yourself to be only awareness and nothing else (body, mind) removes our dualistic belief and helps us merge into the ONE.
Lakes are only reflections of the moonlight.
They are sure to perish and stop reflecting someday, but the moonlight will remain.
Moonlight cares not if the lakes stay or perish.
When you have body consciousness, you are only reflecting the consciousness, and someday, you will stop reflecting and die.
Consciousness does not care whether its reflection lives or dies. (Do you care if your dreams stay or not?)
But when you become conscious only of consciousness (and not of the body), a transformation occurs.
You receive a gift of life and are freed from death; consciousness is life.
When you lose body consciousness, duality disappears, and only the non-dual state (no-thingness) remains.
Individual ownership is no more.
A water droplet merges with the ocean, and then the droplet is no more.
And this opens up the biggest mystery of life –
There is consciousness everywhere, and yet, there is “nobody” who is conscious.
(Aham Brahmasmi (I am Brahma – the life) is only a halfway statement).
There is moonlight, but there is no moon.
There is Godliness, but no God.
There is enlightenment, but nobody to claim it.
There is only a perpetual life and no death. (An individual dies, life never dies).
How do you live with this inexplicable but pleasant truth?
Like a hungry bee who has found a big pot of nectar and is getting drunk with it.
Except this nectar of consciousness never makes you drunk; it keeps you fully awake.
Get drunk with the drink of awareness.
Being drunk and still remaining fully awake is the highest joy of the spiritual life.
