Mind is a Twister

The mind keeps thinking all the time.
Once an event occurs, especially an unfavorable one, the mind starts generating thought after thought about the event.
Since we are so focused on the event, we remain unaware of the intricate workings of our minds.
If you analyze carefully, you will realize that there is a pattern.
After the first thought about the original event, a second thought attaches itself to the first, justifying, supporting, and vouching for it as the truth.
And then a string of thoughts starts, each one supporting the previous one.
Before you know it, it turns into a twister, unabated and unstoppable, against your will.
The trick is to realize this pattern of the mind.
Gently and calmly, trace this chain of thoughts backwards, to its source, and reach to the very first thought that arose, and you will always find the Ego as the culprit.
When the original event was found to be unfavorable, ask yourself: Who did not like that event? Who rejected it?
And the answer always will be “I” – “ I didn’t like it.”
Now, question the validity of “I”.
You will find no validity.
The ego does not have an existence of its own.
It exists solely in thinking. Thinking is its power.
It feeds on the connections and presumed ownerships of various objects, people, and situations.
It needs a body, a mind, and a host of other possessions so that it can establish itself as “I” (and that’s why it suffers when it is challenged).
It is only a fake concept fabricated by the mind and residing solely in the mind.
On the other hand, the AWARENESS that you used to analyze this particular scenario is REAL.
It does not need anything or anyone to exist, especially thinking.
Being aware is not a thought; it’s a realization.
Awareness is aware by itself – self-effluent, self-illuminated.
Do not be afraid of the twister called mind; catch it by the tail, and in the end, you will find the eternal, immutable, ever-shining, pure, and peaceful existence.
